Particularly fine or educational specimens are put on display in the Museum. The giant ground sloth Eromotherium rusconii lived in North and South
America about 16,000 years ago. It's on display because:
- It's extinct.
- It fits the exhibit theme of "Ice Age Giants."
- It's a nearly complete skeleton of unusual size.
- The giant sloth was one of the animals that was able to immigrate from South to North America because of the land bridge between these
continents that formed about 3 million years ago.
