The type material consists of armor scutes from an ankylosaur, originally published by Gilmore as “genus and species indeterminate”. Lehman (1981) republished the material as a nodosaurid ankylosaur, but it was not recognized as a distinct species until 2000, nearly a century after its original discovery.
